I would like to try (that being the key word) to make a fursuit for myself--minus the head, which I don't think I can manage on my own, so will have to commission someone else to do. I want a suit that I can wear to local public places like bowling alleys, zoos, parks, etc., without it being instantly connected to my name/char, because I'm naturally very shy and wish to remain anonymous when suiting in public.

I thought about making a (deer-like) unicorn, as I have a deep otherkin connection to them, but there are so many unicorn suits already out there. (Edit: Well, I've decided to commission one after all.*) I'd like to be a little different, even unique, without my identity able to be discovered easily. I chose the luna moth because have a strong bond with them, and what they symbolize as a totem creature (their connection to the moon and all things nocturnal, as well as to passion and ephemeral, otherworldly beauty). That's why I included one on my spiritual mandala. :)

I just think their plump, furry bodies, soft, fuzzy wings, gorgeous colors and adorable, chibi faces make luna moths perfect for fursuit chars; I really hope I can pull this one off! I haven't decided if I'll include the extra pair of arms or make the wings able to spread out as shown (I hope to manage that!), but we'll see...And I already know where to get the perfect fur for it all! :) Anyways, the scanner sadly ate the colors on this; the green is supposed to be jade green, not greyish green. =P

*Edit #2: After lengthy deliberation, I've decided to combine this luna moth suit and the deer-unicorn fursuit into one (a char which I've dubbed the "Lunacorn"), thus that suit (if all goes according to plan) will have fully-articulated luna moth wings. :)

That is beautiful! I really hope you can pull it off as well! And I think you should put the extra arms... it will make it more real looking (^^) although I've never made a fur suit... I want to but would never know what to do...

I don't think I could ever have the never to fursuit in public -- wouldn't people point and laugh?

This looks like it is going to be a beautiful suit! I have always wanted to make an insect suit for myself, glad I am not alone in that idea :)

This would make one hell of a cool costume and a very unique one, because to date, I don't think I've ever seen an insect costume before.

EEEE! Moth!!

I love it! I actually did a polyphemus moth fursuit a few years ago (I hope to remake her later this year), this idea looks awesome!

a suit like that would be amazing! I love the concept of a luna moth. and you've drawn it beautifully as well.
Best of luck to you in making it.

I hadn't seen any moths suits before I designed this one either, but then I found a few: a giant one on stilts, some pics of "Arthur", the sidekick of "The Tick", and a couple of fairy costumes with moth wings. But I've never seen any moth fursuits at cons, or any photos of such, so hopefully I and ~Beetlecat will be the first (she's making one for herself too, of a cecropia moth, and we hope to debut them together. :)
